Curriculum Overview

The State of North Carolina has adopted the Common Core State Standards in K-12 mathematics and K-12 English Language Arts released by the National Governors Association Center for Best Practices and the Council of Chief State School Officers.  With the adoption of these state-led education standards, North Carolina embraces clear and consistent goals for learning to prepare children for success in college and work.

 

The Male Leadership Academy of Charlotte acknowledges the objectives and goals of the Common Core State Standards.  However it is the objective and goal of the Male Leadership Academy to exceed the objectives of the Common Core State Standards.

 

Therefore we will orient our curriculum and teaching to align with the skills, knowledge and perspectives required in the dynamic and diverse global community of the 21st century.  Such skills include the ability to think critically, creatively and connectedly; to see patterns in seeming chaos; to make creative connections; to apply knowledge to novel situaltions; to design, create and tell stories; to collaborate and communicate clearly; to utilize technology faciley; to wrestle with questions without simple solutions; to manage ambiguity; adapt to change; and to have the inclination and ability to embrace lifelong learning.

 

We will orient our curriculum so that it has a global perspective, and we will consider standards and comparisons not only to U.S. schools, but also to foreign schools and students, as we assess how we are performing.
