Todd Pipkin, Head of School
Todd Pipkin previously was the Vice President of Education Services with EdisonLearning. As the Vice President of Education Services, Todd was instrumental in improving the school districts of Marlboro and Clarendon County in South Carolina and the Petersburg School District in Petersburg, Virginia. His insight and guidance helped Clarendon County meet 100% of the districts AYP goals for the 2010-2011 school year and Marlboro County Schools improved their math scores by 11%. In Petersburg, Todd worked with both A.P. Hill and J.E.B Stuart Elementary Schools in providing staff professional development, collaborating community partnerships, and helping both schools in meet their academic achievement goals.
Prior to Edison Learning, Todd worked as a principal for an urban charter school in Phoenix, AZ. Under his leadership, the school achieved remarkable AIMS scores in math, writing and reading. Phoenix Magazine recognized the school as one of the top Charter schools in Phoenix and the Arizona Department of Education recognized the school for providing an exemplary drop-out prevention program. Prior to working in Phoenix, Todd was a principal in Charlotte-Mecklenburg School district and was part of the only successful school conversion in the country. Supported by the Coalition of Essential Schools and funded by the Bill and Melinda Gates foundation, the project converted a large high school into five smaller schools as a school reform initiative.
Newsweek Magazine recognized the project in 2007 and 2008 as one of the top 1000 high schools in America. Todd was also part of the school administration in 2004 that opened Willow Canyon High School in Surprise, Arizona. The school's population increased from 700 students its first year to 3000 students in the third year of operation. This school also received strong academic gains. The school received a substantial grant from GEAR UP, which allowed Todd to develop strong parental programs, a community center within the school, strong diversity programs, and a strong staff development model. Todd has also taught a graduate-level course at Ottawa University to students seeking to become principals. Todd holds degrees from the University of Pittsburgh and University of Phoenix — a B.A in Liberal Arts and a master’s degree in Educational Leadership.
