Parent Teacher Organization

 

The Male Leadership Academy of Charlotte Parent-Teacher Organization (PTO) is an active group of parents who meet the first Thursday of  every month. The PTO acts as an extended family for the scholars and is a critical part of the school’s support structure. All families are strongly encouraged to participate in the monthly meetings. Grandparents, teachers, and others who have a heart for the student population and want to lend a hand to the success of the scholars are encouraged to become members as well.

 

The MLAC PTO seeks to:

• Foster a supportive environment among families both at school and away from the school

• Connect families to volunteer opportunities at the school

• Develop and implement special programs for families and scholars

• Sponsor events for the entire school community

• Work with the school’s leadership and teachers to examine students’ academic and social progress and discuss initiatives to improve student outcomes

• Address concerns related to the overall school environment in an open, friendly, and productive manner

 

We are excited to support the school in various aspects including fundraising, hosting events, attending community events, and collaborating with the school administration. Some of the activities the scholars and parents have engaged in and/or supported thus far this school year are the Belk Charity fundraiser, NASCAR Charities volunteerism, the Charlotte Post Best Awards Banquet (greeted and attended), field trips to the Hall Family Farm Pumpkin Patch, performances at the ImaginOn Children’s Theatre, and participation in the American Airlines sponsored Make-A-Wish Parade. The PTO has also funded field trips, awarded scholarships, sponsored fundraisers and the Annual MLAC Golf Tournament, and supplemented teacher classroom needs.

 

The PTO is led by a group of elected officers and governed by a set of bylaws. Officers for the 2014-2015 school year are:

President – Dianne Bethea

Co-Vice Presidents – Jamil and Keisha Lightner

Secretary – Felicia Oats

Treasurer – Bathsheba Lawrence
